For most of his life, Shahin Berisha saw the world through the lens of an engineer. He earned a PhD in electrical engineering and began his academic career teaching at the University of Prishtina. Later, he moved with his family to Arizona as a Fulbright scholar. In the United States, he continued teaching mathematics and physics at Gateway Community College and also served as an adjunct professor at Arizona State University. For decades, his days were shaped by equations, lectures, and helping students understand the logic behind how things work.
After retiring in 2020, Shahin found himself with something new—time to explore. In 2023, he picked up a brush and began painting with acrylics. What started as curiosity soon grew into a deeply engaging creative journey.
Although painting is very different from engineering, some familiar instincts remain. Shahin is naturally drawn to patterns, structure, and balance. Geometric forms and repetition often appear in his work, reflecting a quiet connection to the analytical thinking that guided much of his life.
At the same time, nature plays an important role in his paintings. Landscapes, light, and organic shapes often find their way into his compositions—sometimes clearly visible, sometimes transformed into more abstract forms. He enjoys the dialogue between order and spontaneity, between careful planning and allowing the painting to evolve on its own.
Shahin approaches painting the way he has always approached learning: with curiosity, patience, and a willingness to experiment. Working with acrylics, he continues to explore new techniques and ideas. For him, painting is both a new creative path and another way of observing and understanding the world.
